Depending on the application, ceramic bearings have proven to last up to five times longer than conventional bearings because of their lighter weight, smoother surface,
 lower vibration level, and reduced operating temperatures. Tool Makers International manufactures seaming rolls with ceramic bearings as a long-wearing alternative to standard seaming rolls using Timken bearings.

What are the benefits?
Due to the unique properties of ceramic balls, ceramic bearings routinely run at considerably lower operating temperatures. At the same time, running speeds can be increased by as much as 40% to 50% while using less lubricant.
Since reduced operating temperatures help extend lubricant life, this also means a cost savings both in lubricant use and time spent lubricating bearings during the seaming process
Why switch to ceramic bearings?
Depending on your canning operation, you may be a candidate for longer lasting bearings. Beverage canners with high-speed seamers have been the first to use ceramic bearings with great success. Can ceramic bearings be used in all seaming rolls?
Only seaming rolls that incorporate double Timken cone-style bearings can use ceramic bearings interchangeably. For example, the Angelus 60L, 61H or 120L series or the Pneumatic Scale 2000 series rolls.

What are the best options?
Ceramic bearings installed in seaming rolls made with extended-wear powdered steel, such as
Elmax, and coated with a high-tech surface finish, such as titanium nitride, will give the greatest degree of durability in seamer tooling.
